A British Pilot Freddie Bosworth started air taxi service from Bahrain to Doha and Dhahran in the later half of the 1940s which was later increased by him with the registration of Gulf Aviation. The British Overseas Airways Corporation signed as a prime shareholder of this Gulf Aviation in the month of October in 1951 and services to London were initiated in the month of April in 1970. In the year 1973, the governments of Oman's Sultanate, Abu Dhabi's Emirate, Qatar's State and Bahrain's Kingdom bought the shares of BOAC in Gulf Aviation and with the signing of the Foundation Treaty on the 1st of January, 1974, each government got a share of 25% in the newly formed company of Gulf Air.
In India, Gulf Air flies to a number of places like New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Trivandrum and Kochi.
