Delhi is the second-largest metropolitan in India after Mumbai with a population of 13 million. It is located in northern India on the banks of the River Yamuna. Delhi has acquired the political status of a federally-administered union territory called as the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
A 1991 constitutional amendment gave Delhi its own legislative assembly with restricted powers. It has been the capital city of several ancient empires and as a result holds many historical monuments and cenotaphs.
